Promoting the use of racialized collaborative conversations
Baylor ISR / Program for Collaborative Conversation & Race

About The Program

Mission

The Baylor Program for Collaborative Conversation and Race promotes meaningful conversations to improve U. S. race relations.

Rationale

Collaborative conversations are meaningful result-oriented conversations promoting an atmosphere whereby all interested parties are given a platform to express their concerns and work together to find solutions. This approach contrasts with efforts to either ignore racial problems or antiracist approaches which do not foster a full discussion. The Baylor Program for Collaborative Conversations and Race will attract interested parties fostering interaction and social networking. This organization will also promote research into the viability of collaborative conversations to ameliorate the racial tension in the United States.

About the Program

The purpose of the Baylor Program for Collaborative Conversation and Race is the investigation and promotion of the use of collaborative conversations in dealing with racial conflict. Fundamentally we intend on promoting collaborative conversation as an alternative to the philosophies of colorblindness and antiracism. To this end we seek to create a network of like-minded individuals and organizations that can offer social support. This network will be a potential catalyst for the creation of other organizations that can promote the use of racialized collaborative conversations.

The program is also located at a highly esteemed academic program. We will take advantage of this relationship to promote research into the viability of collaborative conversation. Given the lack of research on using collaborative conversation to create better racial dialog, this program will produce cutting edge research on this topic. Money from membership fees will first go to ensuring that the infrastructure necessary to run the program stays in place. But once that need is met, then funding will be used to conduct the academic research necessary to fully assess the viability of collaborative conversations on lowering racial tension.

Ideally as the membership of the program grows, there will be more funding so that the program can embark on a large vision of creating resources for those who want to promote collaborative conversations. Those resources can be workshops, workbooks, conferences, videos, a You Tube channel, speakers and more as resource and imagination permits.   The general plan is to use membership fees to plan these efforts. Simply by obtaining membership you are helping to support the use of collaborative conversations in reducing racial tension. However, we do accept gifts beyond membership fees and such gifts are tax deductible.
